1) What is regulation and why do media industries need to be regulated?

Regulation is control of industries to ensure they don't display any unsafe products .


2) What is OFCOM responsible for?

Ofcom is the regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. It regulates broadcasters .

3) Look at the section on the OFCOM broadcasting code. Which do you think are the three most important sections of the broadcasting code and why?

Covering standards in programmes, sponsorship, product placement in the media . They all hold significant value within media industries .


4) Do you agree with OFCOM that Channel 4 was wrong to broadcast 'Wolverine' at 6.55pm on a Sunday evening? Why?

I agree as 6.55 pm is before watershed so it shouldn't of been shown as it contains  sex & Nudity Violence & Gore ,  Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking .

5) List five of the sections in the old Press Complaints Commission's Code of Practice.

6) Why was the Press Complaints Commission criticised?

There are no consumer rights people on the PCC .

7) What was the Leveson enquiry and why was it set up?

The Leveson Inquiry was a judicial public inquiry into the culture, practices, and ethics of the British press following the News International phone hacking scandal, chaired by Lord Justice Leveson, who was appointed in July 2011.

8) What was the PCC replaced with in 2014?

Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO)

9) What is your opinion on press regulation? Is a free press an important part of living in a democracy or should newspapers face statutory regulation like TV and radio?

I think every industry should face high levels of regulation to ensure that mis presentations or offences are not given .

10) Why is the internet so difficult to regulate?

Because there are independent creators that can publish individual media and users have access to high volume .
